Internationally acclaimed Gospel recording artiste Carlene Davis-
Cowan, PhD, OD, is one of the most dynamic, inspirational and committed
singers of this generation. An inductee in the Caribbean Hall of Fame,
Carlene has established herself as a musician, songwriter and artiste
extraordinaire. In her music, she pours out the powerful message of God’s
love which flows through her, bringing hope and healing to listener’s hearts.
God has truly anointed and appointed her to carry “The Word” to this
generation. Through her music, she brings a message of deliverance and
transformation to a hurting world, thus, fulfilling The Great Commission.
Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, W.I., Carlene spent her early childhood
years with her grandparents who instilled the importance of Christ’s love
deep into her mind. At the age of 14, Carlene migrated to England with the
rest of her siblings to join her parents and complete her high school and
college education. She later moved to Canada where she embarked on her
musical journey. Further down the road, she returned to Jamaica and
pursued a full-time career in the recording industry, becoming known as the
‘the mover’ and song bird of the Caribbean, singing the songs of love and
Carlene has recorded and released over 15 non-religious albums, with
number one singles such as ‘Winnie Mandela’ (see video), ‘Welcome
Home Mr. Mandela’, ‘It Must Be Love,’ ‘Going Down To Paradise,’ ‘Stealing
Love On The Side’ ‘Santa Claus Do You Ever Come To The Ghetto,’ ‘Dial
My Number,’ (see video) and ‘Like Old Friends Do.’ These hit songs
opened doors to the shores of Japan, North and South America, Europe,
Canada and the Caribbean!
Diagnosed with cancer in 1996, Carlene rededicated her life to Christ.
Carlene said she ran to ‘The only One I could run to’. In this renewed
calling and healing, she stands as a living testimony of the mighty healing
power of God. The Lord has shown His might in her life and ministry,
breaking down barriers and denominations, as she strives to spread the
love, peace and joy of the Gospel with everyone she connects with.
A multitalented worship leader, she is also an ordained minister with a
Doctorate in pastoral counselling and a graduate of the Ron Kenoly Praise
Academy. Additionally, she was awarded a ‘Commander Class National
Honour’ by the government of Jamaica in the ‘The Order of Distinction’ for
her contribution to the music and community development.
In the early stages of her musical career, Carlene shared the stage with the
likes of Aretha Franklyn, Stevie Wonder, Sting & The Police, Gladys Knight, Bunny
Wailer, Dennis Brown, Peter Tosh, Ken Boothe, Ernie Smith. Even today
she feels blessed to continue on this same platform with the likes of Marcia
Griffiths, Etana, Alaine, Shaggy, Tessanne Chin, Beenie Man, Taurus Riley
and so many others now empowered to profess her faith. Carlene says,
‘By God’s grace I am again led to the numerous places I once performed,
all to the honor and glory of God.’ Since her recommitment she has
released over 9 gospel albums on the Glory Music label- a company she
started with her husband/manager/producer Thomas ‘Tommy” Cowan.
Today, Carlene and Tommy run Glory Music with the aid of their two
children: Nathan and Naomi.
The album “True Worship”, a Glory Music Production, won the ‘Top
Female Gospel Performance’ award at the Marlin’s Award in the Bahamas.

Carlene consistently spends time in the studio working on new projects. In
2012 she released “Jubilee”, featuring Papa San and commemorating
Jamaica’s 50 th anniversary. That same year, Carlene was called to mentor
and coach Digicel’s talent gospel contestants, who placed 2 nd and 3 rd in the
competition! In 2013, “The Fun in the Son School Tour” took her and the
team into 16 high schools across the island, encouraging Jamaica’s youth
to have a positive attitude and place God at the center of their lives to
achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations.
In October 2015, Carlene released her 10 th album, ‘Dripping Blood,’ a Glory
Music production, distributed by VP Records/Universal Records and
Christian Book Stores along with the premier of two music videos: ‘Dripping
Blood’ and ‘Thank You Mr. Mandela’, a tribute to the life of Nelson
Mandela. Part of the proceeds from this album/song went towards the fight
against Ebola in Africa. The album received rave reviews as it sizzled it’s
way to the International Reggae Billboard ‘Top Ten Charts’ peaking at #2.
Also, in October 2015 Carlene received the ‘Gospel Song of the Year’ at
the IRAWMA Awards in Florida, USA.
Glory Music is a ministry and production company that produces and
promotes the successful Gospel outreach festival ‘Jamaica Fun In The
Son’. Jamaica Fun in the Son is now a bi -annual celebration of music,
praise, worship and missions, where thousands of lives have been
